The going to the pool visual schedule is a portrait A4 with a packing list at the top and the plan for the visit below, with symbols and boxes to tick. In Áigi Plan the template is called Going to the pool.
When the template fits
A trip to the pool has a lot that is new or rare: the bag to pack, the changing room, the shower before swimming and the noise in the pool hall. The swimming pool visual schedule shows both what to bring and what happens, in the order it happens. The template fits before a first visit, before school swimming and when it has been a long time since the last one. Make the template your own
Add what belongs to your pool, such as a locker with a code or a slide. You swap symbols for others from the library or for photos of the pool, so it is familiar before you get there. Print on A4 or save as a PDF.
How to use it
- Pack the bag together and tick off one thing at a time.
- Bring the visual support to the pool in a plastic sleeve.
- Look at the plan in the changing room and point to the next step.
- Tick off the plan afterwards and talk about how it went.
Tips
- Look at the visual support the day before, so the visit is not entirely new.
- A photo of the entrance or the changing room can make a new place feel less unknown.
- School swimming often has the same steps: use the same visual support there.
