What is bildstod.se?
According to its home page, bildstod.se is a free resource created by Dart, a specialist unit for communication support and digital participation, in the KomHIT project funded by the Swedish Inheritance Fund. Dart is part of Region Västra Götaland. There you can make your own visual supports and reuse visual supports others have made, with several thousand images. There are four types of visual support, board, bundle, schedule, and text and picture, and a feature that translates simple words into ten languages.
What is Pictogram.se?
Pictogram.se is a web service from the Swedish National Agency for Special Needs Education and Schools (SPSM) with two image banks, Pictogram and Teckningsbanken. There you can download the images or create communication support, teaching material and schedules. The service has subscriptions, and municipalities can have a municipal licence. According to SPSM, Pictogram.se is being phased out during autumn 2026. The Pictogram images are instead part of the Bildspråk web service in Digitala samlingen, which requires a licence.
How you make visual supports in Áigi
You start with AI or a template. Describe, for example, a morning routine in six steps, and the AI builds a paper from the library’s symbols. Or pick a template and use it as it is, or let the AI fill it in for your everyday life.
Then you edit: click a text and retype it, swap a symbol, drag a step to a new place, add times. With Change with AI you ask for another step, times or a different theme. What is missing you photograph and use as it is, or turn into a symbol in the same style. You print the paper, put it on the child’s screen or send it as a link to the other adults.
Where Áigi wins
- Create with AI. Describe what you need, and Áigi builds a proposal from the library’s symbols, which you edit until it fits.
- Your photos become symbols. With Photo to symbol, a photo of the child’s backpack or your bathroom becomes a symbol in the same style as the rest of the library.
- One library, one style. Thousands of symbols with flat colours, a warm brown outline and no text in the picture. Many come with nine main characters, so you choose who the child in the picture is.
- Paper and screen in one. The same visual support prints on A4 and shows on the child’s tablet or the classroom computer, through a link that stays. You change what it shows from your phone.
- In the browser, on your phone too. Áigi Plan runs on a computer, tablet and phone.
Where bildstod.se and Pictogram still win
- Bildstod.se is free and public, with thousands of ready-made visual supports to reuse.
- Translation of simple words into ten languages.
- Pictogram is a standard many schools, and many children, already recognise.
How to choose
If what you need is already on bildstod.se, take it. If the visual support should show your bathroom and the child’s backpack, be built by an AI in minutes and appear on the child’s screen, Áigi does that. Ready-made visual supports can be borrowed. Your own, you make in Áigi.
