In short
If you want full freedom in the layout, and already have the pictures, PowerPoint, Word and Canva work. If the symbols should be there when you type the word, look the same every time and be easy to show on the child’s screen, Áigi is built for that.

What are PowerPoint, Word and Canva?
PowerPoint and Word are Microsoft’s programs for presentations and documents, in Microsoft 365. According to Microsoft, they work on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android, and Copilot helps create and change content. Canva is a design tool where, according to Canva, you make social media posts, videos, presentations, print material and more, with AI-powered tools.
All three are general tools, built for many kinds of documents and not specifically for visual supports.
How you make visual supports in Áigi
You start with AI or a template, never from a blank page. Describe, for example, a morning routine in six steps, and the AI builds a paper from the library’s symbols. Or pick a template and use it as it is, or let the AI fill it in for your everyday life.
Then you edit: click a text and retype it, swap a symbol, drag a step to a new place, add times. Colours, fonts and layout are not set by hand. With Change with AI you ask for another step, times, a calmer look or a different theme, and with Create matching you make the next paper in the same style.
Where Áigi wins
- The symbols are already there. Type a word in a card, and the symbol is placed. Thousands of symbols in the same style, searchable in Swedish and English.
- The AI does the layout. Ready-made base formats, and if you want something else, you ask the AI for it.
- Your photos become symbols. Use the photo as it is, or let Photo to symbol turn it into a symbol in the same style as the rest of the library.
- Templates to start from. Templates for home, school and care, which you use as they are or let the AI fill in.
- Paper, screen and sharing in one. Save as PDF or image and print on A4, put the visual support on the child’s tablet with Screen, or send a link to the paper.
Where PowerPoint, Word and Canva still win
- Full control over colours, fonts and layout, down to the smallest detail.
- The programs are often already on the computer, and you know them.
- Everything other than visual supports: presentations, documents, invitations, posts.
How to choose
If the visual support is an exception and the program is already open, make it in PowerPoint. If you make visual supports every week, for a child who should recognise the symbols, Áigi does the job in minutes instead of hours. In PowerPoint you paste pictures. In Áigi you type a word.
Common questions about visual supports in PowerPoint, Word and Canva
Can you make visual supports in PowerPoint or Word?
Yes. Many people do, with pictures they look up and paste in, in a layout they build themselves. It works, but every new visual support takes time, and the pictures rarely look the same from one time to the next if they come from different places.
Can you make visual supports in Canva?
Yes. Canva has templates and images for many kinds of documents, but is not built specifically for visual supports. The symbols, and keeping them the same every time, are up to you.
Can I change colours and fonts in Áigi?
Not by hand. You change the look by asking the AI, for example for a different theme or a calmer look. If you want to decide every detail yourself, PowerPoint, Word and Canva give you more freedom.
Can I use my own pictures?
Yes. Upload your own photos and use them directly in the cards, or turn them into symbols in the library’s style with Photo to symbol.
