What’s included

  1. Before PE: take off clothes, hang up clothes, put on PE kit, put on shoes
  2. After PE: shower, dry off, get dressed, pack the bag

The PE visual schedule is a portrait A4 in two parts, before and after PE. Every step has a symbol and a box to tick. In Áigi Plan the template is called Changing for PE.

When the template fits

Changing for PE is many steps in a short time, in a room that is often crowded and loud. The PE visual schedule shows the steps before and after the lesson, from taking clothes off to packing the bag. The template fits in the changing room, for someone who finds it hard to get started or falls behind, and before a new school or sports hall. More on how visual supports can make a situation more predictable in what visual supports are.

Make the template your own

Remove the shower if it is not done at your school, or add steps such as locking the locker. You swap symbols for others from the library or for photos of the changing room. Print on A4 or save as a PDF.

How to use it

  1. Put the visual support up in the changing room, at eye level.
  2. Point to the next step instead of reminding with words.
  3. Tick off before PE, and again after.
  4. Change the step that usually takes longest, for example by splitting it in two.

Tips

  • The changing room can be busy and loud. A visual support to look at gives something fixed to hold on to.
  • Go through the steps before PE starts.
  • The same visual support in the bag and on the wall keeps the steps the same in both places.

What to bring is in the PE bag packing list. See also the school day visual schedule and all templates.
