What’s included

  1. The afternoon with times: snack, outdoors, activity, pick-up
  2. Six activities to choose from: draw, puzzle, build, read, dance, football

The after-school visual schedule is a portrait A4 with the afternoon at the top and activities to choose from below. In Áigi Plan the template is called After-school afternoon.

When the template fits

The afternoon at after-school club has several parts, and it is not always clear when snack time is, when it is time to go outside or who is picking up. The after-school visual schedule shows the afternoon with rough times and six activities to choose from. The template fits for after-school staff, and at home to talk about the afternoon before it comes. A visual schedule with fixed parts can make the step from the school day easier to predict; more on visual schedules in our guide to visual supports.

Make the template your own

Put in the club’s times and the activities that are on offer there. You swap symbols for others from the library or for photos of the rooms and things at the club. Print on A4 or save as a PDF. With Pro or Max the schedule can be shown on a screen at the club.

How to use it

  1. Put the schedule up where pupils come in after school.
  2. Go through the afternoon at snack time.
  3. Let the choice of activity be made with the pictures, by pointing.
  4. Move a marker when a part of the afternoon is done.

Tips

  • Show who picks up, and roughly when, with a photo.
  • Fewer choices can make it easier to decide.
  • The same schedule every day, with changes marked, can make the afternoon easier to predict.
